#3 DANCE FLOOR
Dance flooring standards have come a long way in recent years. Thanks to the continuing research from The Harkness Center in New York, the work
of biomechanics professor Luke Hopper, Dr. Boni Reitveld, The Physical Therapy Department of the University of Missouri, Jeffery A. Russel, and many others, medical science has established a link between dancing on unyielding surfaces and foot and ankle injury, and are studying the effects
on back injuries. Dancing on a dance specific sprung floor is essential to protect the growing bodies of dancers from lifelong injuries. While no movement activity is without risk, the type of surface you are moving on can help reduce the risks. Dance creates impact energy. If the energy generated by dance is returned to the body it can result in shin splints, fractures, and an array of knee problems, tendonitis, and ankle sprains. A dance floor that is both impact absorbent and provides lateral foot support is essential.
M&N Dance has a professional grade sprung floor. In fact, we have the same floor as the Dancing with the stars, the Dance Flex Floor. However,
even if you choose not to dance with us, the research is clear. Do not accept anything less than a professionally installed sprung floor for your dancing.
Dancing constantly is the fastest way for your body to get used to dancing and to become a great dancer! Aiming for at least twice a week to everyday, ideally!
It depends on frequency and practice.
The more often you do it, the faster you will learn.
Group classes tend to be a larger group of people all learning from one teacher. These sizable dance lessons give you a little taste of different dance styles. It’s also a great way to socialize and meet new people. If you would like to get more in depth in a dance style or you are preparing for an event, the one-on-one private dance lessons are best for you. In a private lesson, you instructor can personalize the experience based on your dance levels, interest and goals. You can also learn at your own pace. If you are unsure about which route to take, talk to our instructors or try both to decide what fits you best.
Each lesson is 45 minutes long.
Not at all, we teach people of all ages.
Like any event, there’s always the fear to be over/under dressed. For a dance class, it’s appropriate to wear something comfortable and easy to move in. Ideally not jeans. As far as shoes go, make sure they’re clean and comfy. One of the most important assets in our dance studio is the Dance Floor, which we carefully selected for our students best benefits, being the best in the Industry. Shoes with thin, smooth soles and short heels are great for dancing. Open toes, flip-flops and rubber soles aren’t recommended.
You don’t need a partner or any experience! One of our instructors will lead you every step of the way.
The best start is our introductory private lesson which is complementary.
This lesson will help your teacher find out your rate of learning and retention, regardless of your dance level so he/she will present a program that will fit your needs and wants to give you the look and feel you want for the dance floor.
You’ll get your own dance instructor at a time of your convenience, within business hours. This way your teacher can get you comfortable moving across the floor and you will get more fun once you have a general understanding of the basics.
